plus size & curvy Boudoir Photography London
For the curvy onesWelcoming women of all shapes and sizes.
Plus size boudoir photography in London looks different around here. Editorial locations, bespoke sessions, and a photographer who has spent over a decade figuring out exactly how to flatter every woman's body on camera.
Rebel & Romance shoots aren't in a set studio either - they're in Mayfair townhouses, East London warehouses, boutique hotels, or anywhere else the vibe of the shoot calls for. Every session is fully directed, with as much coaching as you'd like. The results will blow you away.
Personally, I think it’s difficult to know how to handle the term "plus size" these days. It's full of negative connotations for some, and it can seem mean-spirited and divisive.
On the other hand, I know brilliant women who have taken this phrase and made it their own, becoming spokeswomen for body positivity and refusing to feel shamed. For them,"plus size" is a description they own and say with pride. That attitude of unapologetic self acceptance has been so inspiring, and I fear it is more needed than ever as we start to see the pendulum shift back to the 90's waif.
I use the term “plus size boudoir” on this page, and throughout the rest of my website for one reason only: it’s the most popular search term. If I used “curvy boudoir photography” or “voluptuous boudoir photography,” or maybe if I just titled everything with “Bombshells - this one is for you,” I wouldn’t reach even half of you. So I SINCERELY hope the term doesn’t offend you, it’s certainly not intended to. I just want to WORK with you.
That said, plus size boudoir sessions are so much fun. Curvy girls often become my most happy and loyal clients, and they are frequently the ones who really, really love their time and experience at Rebel &. Romance. I don't want you to apologise for the way your body looks, I just want to show you how beautiful it is.
IS A PLUS SIZE SHOOT DIFFERENT THAN OTHER SHOOTS?
Yes and no. The layout of a shoot for a plus size or curvy woman is identical to any other session - planning and prepping before the session, a conversation to make sure we’re on the same page, makeup and hairstyling, several wardrobe options and sets, plenty of posing and coaching, editing and retouching on your best images, and a beautiful viewing a few weeks later.
There are a few things I’ll probably do differently if you indicate that you are plus size/curvy/have child bearing hips...
First off, I’ll tell you not to worry. Being curvy means that you’ve probably had a LOT of bad photographs taken, which often translates into a general dread at the idea of being in front of a camera. I understand this feeling completely, and it’s a big part of what led me to photography in the first place. Please hear me though; you are not going to feel that feeling with me (over my dead body). I've spent over a decade doing exactly this, with women who look just like you, to make sure that never happens.
Second, we’ll chat about any parts of your body you love so we can highlight and celebrate those. If you'd like, you can also tell me about any body concerns you might have. If there are areas you’re not so keen on, don't worry - I have lots of tricks up my sleeve including clever posing, smart wardrobe options, really good lighting, and strategic photoshop (as desired).
Third, we’ll talk about wardrobe ideas for your particular body - what works, what doesn’t, what items to consider, and where you can find them.
WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE?
There are a few things you’ll want to think about in preparation for your shoot, and we'll cover these during your pre-shoot consultation. It's mostly common sense type things like making sure you're happy with the appearance of your hair and nails.
A special note about wanting to lose weight before your session, because I hear this a lot.
You do not need to lose weight first. You will look great in the images we create together, whether you lose a few pounds or not.
In fact, if you wait until you are the perfect number on the scale to come see me, there’s a pretty good chance you'll just never do a shoot. That's not to throw shade, it's just the reality - life gets busy, things get in the way, and all the sudden you look up to find it's been 10 years and still haven't done it. Forget it - let’s make you feel amazing NOW. You can always come back again anyway, but you can't go back in time.
If you’re absolutely set on losing a little first, then my recommendation is to book your shoot for a little further out than normal. Don’t put it off, book it now. We can choose a date 6 or 9 months in the future and that’s it - no going back. You’ll be getting in front of the camera whether you lose the weight or not, so it’s a powerful motivator and a great way to celebrate when you do, or to learn to love yourself when you don’t. I’ve had a few clients do this, and apparently it works pretty well.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY SESSION?
What you wear can make or break a shoot, so it's worth spending some time on this. I recommend 3-4 looks, and I'll be happy to make lots of suggestions when we chat.
In general, it’s nice to have plenty of variety so we're making the best use of your shoot time. I think everyone looks great in an all black look with stilettos. For curvier clients, bodysuits and shapewear are always popular options. If you’re planning a surprise or a gift for your significant other, you may also want to bring along something from your partner's wardrobe. The most important note is that things fit you well. If it’s been a while, an updated bra fitting and something new might be in order.
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY PLUS SIZE BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY LONDON SESSION?
Contact me as soon as you know you’d definitely like to do this. Session slots are limited, so I'd rather get you on the calendar sooner than later. If you’re planning to create a beautiful album to give as a gift, we’ll aim to schedule your shoot for about 2-3 months prior to any important dates. That gives us plenty of time to make everything happen, and leaves me enough room for any unexpected delays.
WHAT ABOUT POSING? I’M WORRIED I WON’T LIKE THE WAY I LOOK…
It’s absolutely normal to feel this way. The thought of getting in front of a camera can be scary. Doing it while half naked can be downright terrifying. I totally get that, and I promise I will do everything in my power to make sure you feel prepared, comfortable, and know what to expect.
Posing is something you don’t even need worry about though, because that is 100% MY JOB. All you need to do is listen and have a go. In most cases, I’ll be doing the pose right along with you. If you know your elbow from your knee, you’ll be absolutely fine. If nerves make you forget - also fine, I can point.
I’ve worked with every body type out there dozens and dozens of times, and I have the experience to know the positions that are going to flatter you the most. I’ll coach you LOADS. And then…I’ll coach and coach some more. I’ll direct and tweak poses so much that you’ll be low key sick of hearing my voice by the time we’re done, but you'll thank me later;)
Let's do it.
