A quick preview of what I’ve been up to the last two weeks…
I have four new shoots to share (plus all the older ones I still haven’t blogged…eek!).
There’s this “Old Hollywood Glam” concept with Sophie and Gemma on makeup and hair. I used some lights, we did some desaturated skin, and it all turned out great.
Then, back to basics with Sara. Also on this shoot; fake freckles, blue alien lips and a faux bob courtesy of makeup artist Sadaf and hairstylist Tia. Yeah, I’ve got your attention now don’t I? Just you wait.
Sara the English Rose in a topknot, with Tia and Sadaf on hair and makeup.
I’m so happy about the way this second image has turned out. It wasn’t easy or pretty, but we pulled it off. As soon as I can reliably recreate this look (without the sea of awkwardly placed softboxes, hand held lights, and net curtains diffusers), the studio entranceway will be officially open for business:) It feels like I’ve been waiting seven years to shoot this chandelier the way it deserves, and it’s the perfect romantic, glamorous feeling backdrop I always hoped it would be.
Finally, the fashion headshot with Montana, Sadaf, and Tia. I used lights again here – two of them! Studio lighting is definetly a learning curve – everything is so finicky. Still, making progress so I can’t complain:)
It’s been hectic, but really good too. We’ve had some great women to work with, a few fun ideas for new sets and props, and plenty of good laughs. Unfortunately, lots of shooting means lots of editing. You can currently find me buried under a mountain of retouching work, so please don’t invite me out anywhere fun. I cannot go, I am in retouching exile until further notice. Send snacks.
Anyway, I thought I’d share some behind the scenes snapshots from the last two weeks. These are straight from the camera so please don’t judge.
Springtime flowers for the win. Clearance roses are my new favourite photo prop.
I made this flower crown in about 15 min out of a wire coat hanger and some fishing line. It was brilliant, everyone wanted to wear it, and it photographed like a DREAM. Here’s a few shots of Gemma and I “working” with Chrissy.
We also DIYed a wedding dress out of some fabric and ribbon. It’s obviously no good for full length, but with a little extra pinning it worked great for bridal hair and makeup shots. We shot some great bridal themed lingerie with Chrissy too, can’t wait to show you those.
This idea needs a lot more work, but doesn’t Chrissy’s makeup look stunning?
A super hot sneak peek for Sarah;) Her shoot is turning out great, and I think she’ll probably be okay with sharing some of it publicly, so you might even get a look if you stay tuned!
This is lovely Anna, who came to shoot portraiture with me for a few days. Anna and I met on set at the TeamGlam photo shoot a few weeks ago. When we realised how much we had a lot in common and that we shared a lot of the same goals for our portfolios, we set up a few days of shared shooting. It’s always more fun to learn with a friend.
Curvy girls in the house! Gorgeous Katie, Jazmine, and Amy bravely came down to be our guinea pigs.
I have also fallen in love with using the hair dryer for creating faux breeze. It’s amazing, I can’t believe I haven’t been using it this whole time.

Another flower crown, and a comfy & cozy set from Katie’s shoot.
I’m also hoping to be able to release two new lingerie shoots soon – both are slated for publication in magazines so I have to keep them quiet for the time being. I’m told the images will be published “soon.” Your guess is as good as mine on what that sort of timeframe actually means lol! It’s always an honour to see work in print though, so Debbie, Sadaf, Olivia, Katie and I are happily practicing the virtue of patience.
One last thing, we have a really cool location arranged for tomorrow’s shoot. Follow me on Instagram for behind the scenes sneaks: @stormy_rebelandromance
It’s going to be slick and shiny and much more in keeping with what Rebel & Romance Boudoir Photography is all about. Here’s a teensy sneak peek:
The thing is, it’s just one of those projects that never goes quite as expected or as quickly as one would hope. I’ve spent ages figuring out what look and feel I wanted since it’s part of a larger re-branding effort, and then even longer trying to find someone to hire to build it for me. It’s been a revolving set of problem doors – what platform is best? what about SEO? what about functionality? will I be able to make changes easily? I’m sorry, you want HOW MUCH and you still can’t give me what I want?
Long story short, I didn’t find anyone that filled me with confidence. So I’m just doing the damn thing myself. Le sigh.
The good new is I’m making real progress now, the bulk of the work is done and I think I’ll be in a position to launch fairly soon. I’m going to put this thing live before it’s ready, because that’s what all the entrepreneur people tell me to do. It’s a sort of “living document” anyway and bound to have lots of changes over then next year, so I guess there’s really no sense in waiting.
I will need a few beta testers. If you fancy having a first look and sharing your thoughts, or if you’ve worked with me in the past and are interested in being featured and sharing your experience, plllleeeasse give me a shout:)
Sneak Peek: Sarah, Yvette, and Katrina’s Boudoir Photo Shoot
It was such a pleasure working with these gorgeous women the other week. Such beautiful, strong girls for a boudoir photo shoot. In fact, we had such a successful boudoir photo shoot that I’m really struggling to narrow the images down to favourites. I know it’s going to take me ages, so I just couldn’t resist a little sneak peek.
I love these girls together. All so different, each with a unique look and personality, yet their differences compliment each other beautifully. They are also just really, really lovely people to work with.
Katrina (redhead in the middle) and I have been trying to get together for ages. She was one of the very first women I worked with when launching Rebel & Romance, and I just love her. We’ve been struggling to make a second shoot happen due to our crazy schedules, but we finally managed it. We picked a date, arranged the location, talked the lovely Gemma into helping us out with her mad makeup skills, and invited the lovely Sarah and Yvette along for the party too.
Everything was shaping up for a great boudoir photo shoot, and then Katrina shows up at the bottom of the stairs with THE MOST AMAZING WARDROBE EVER. It filled the green room in an explosion of tulle, gold, and sparkly things. Honestly, I think it was a spread that would have made even Carrie Bradshaw gasp. Then….she whips out her three snake babies. I KNOW. It’s all natural beauty and pretty as posies here, but don’t let that fool you. These girls have edge too.
Can’t wait to show you. Stay tuned.
xx
